What is 925 Sterling Silver?

I have recently had many people asking me, "what is 925 sterling silver?" Quite simply 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% added metals such as "tin" which help to stabilise the silver and prevent it from tarnishing too easily. This standard of silver is used by craftsmen all over the world to create the fine pieces of sterling silver jewellery we see today. Pure silver cannot be used in making jewelry as it is extremely malleable and it can suffer damage easily. It also tends to get very soft, even in conditions of normal temperature. That is why 925 sterling silver is used and not the pure form of the precious metal. All products including pendants, silver rings and silver bracelets on Lintara are made from 925 sterling silver.
